Fit & Active
Since spring 2017 Döbriach is a certified hiking village and our hotel a certificated hiking hotel.
Together with our mountain and hiking guides our guests can discover the surrounding Nock mountains 3 times a week. The hiking tours are posted in the hotel once a week and considered all proficiency levels.
The hostess herself is a certificated hiking guide and is available for guests.
The H₂0 Höhenweg is accesible throug a toll alpine road. The H₂O Höhenweg in Millstatt is an interesting trail for families. Especially the wonderful view over the lake Millstatt and the panoramic view over the mountains. The H₂O Höhenweg is also for parents with buggies and leads trough pituresque pastures and along the springs of the Millstätter alm, which is located 1.000 m above sea level.
Nature playground for kids
Children will surely love the colourful "Nockdragon", which splashes water over the hiking trail. More fun water-adventures can be find on the nature playground Bach, where rubber boots can be borrowed.
Relaxing on the beach
For a rest there are carved handmade benches made of larch everywhere.
Presentation boards & guided tours
Along the trail are presentation boards with topics like wild animals, geology, water and mountain flowers. Very popular is the guide through the alpine dairy with the organic farmer Franz (from Monday to Wednsday at 3 PM).
9176 Alfred Tronegger, Roswitha, Meinhard Pertl and Gotthard Schöllhammer started to renovate 6 forfeit mills along the brook Kaniger Rossbach. This project only worked because of lots of voluntary work and government grants. Now the mills are functioning again and open to the public.
Once there were more than 20 mills to grind the corn of mountain farmers lots of kilometres away. Nowadays only these 6 mills remind us of these times: The Neuwirtmühle, the Stinigmühle, the Trattnigmühle, the Ranermühle, the Veidlmühle and the Adammühle.
Along the Rossbach are a few lovely facilities: a small mill, a rustical room for baking breed (workshops every Wednesday, prior reservation wanted), places for grilling, a "witch cottage", many hand-carved wooden figures, Kneipp water-treading basin, a woodcutter camp, a "rock shower", energetic places and the "Bärenwand" for climbers.
There are also a lot of things for children to play.
Furthermore there are presentation boards about the mills, the brook, the forest and the use of wood, the animals and the farmer's work.
The Kneipp trail with its wonderful panoramic views leads along energetic places in the villages Gschriet and Glanz. Hiking through thick forest, sunny meadows and to the rustical alpine restaurants Gasthof Possegger and Alpengasthof Bergfried. Along the way are a few lovely mountain farms.
Along the Kneipp panoramic trail are a few water-treading basins and descriptions about the correct water usage, instructions for stretching and ideas for a healthy life, a herb garden, descriptions of trees, plants, etc.
Lenght: Schwaigerhütte - Lammersdorferhütte 8,5 km
Duration: about 6 hours incl. breaks
Altitude difference: 275m
Parking: Schwaigerhütte (accessible from the Millstätter Almstraße)
Verlauf: After about 30 min hiking you arrive at the Alexanderhütte (1.786 m) and at the Wall of Love, the 1. place of the trail of love. You will pass 7 places and 7 books until you reach the Granattor (2.066 m) in about 3 hours. From there you can go down to the Lammersdorfer Alm/Lammersdorferhütte (1.640 m) in about 1 hour.
Newly enamored lovers, couples and hiking enthusiasts are drawn to the Millstätter Alpe high above Lake Millstatt this summer. Up there, nearby Alexander lodge, the “Way of Love. Sentiero dell‘ Amore“ begins. This is indicated by the steel plate that lovers write their thoughts down on. Starting your hiking tour from here will offer you three inspiring hours and seven places that facilitate sensuous meetings and encounters with people and nature, which invite you to rest for a moment. Seven books, one at each stop, accompany hikers who try to learn more about human relationships and the emotions they entail. „What is love?” and “what feeds it?” are only two of the questions they will be confronted with. Quotes, poems, and stories will help finding the answers. At the final seventh stop, the Garnet Gate - a gateway filled with tons of garnets - will allow the hikers to take a look at their future together to complete the tour.
